Situation:
Introduce AV installers to an innovative new connector line that is faster and easier to install in the field
Task:
This product would appeal to installers who don't normally do the project specifying or ordering. How do we make them aware of the advantages this product offers and drive the demand back up the chain to the engineer and purchasing level?
Action:
Create a live "Race-to-win" contest at multiple industry trade shows letting the best installers in the country compete for valuable prizes (and bragging rights)
Result:
I created web-based registration, admin, leaderboard and game timer interface. The game interface allowed simultaneous participants, timed individually. The timer was started/stopped by a custom-made USB pushbutton switch at each station.
Cable terminations were tested for continuity when completed and the time was confirmed through can an admin interface if the test was passed.
The contest was a huge success and generated a great deal of buzz at the show and kept the booth hopping. We intentionally positioned the game stations at the edge of the booth so the crowd watching would overflow into the aisle and not clog the booth
Winning the inital contest helped the winner secure a new position as the head of AV integration for Pandora
